Fathom Achieves 95.5* Overall Performance Score in KLAS Research Autonomous Coding Report, With Customers Validating 90%+ Automation Rates

Fathom, the leader in autonomous medical coding, today announced that it achieved a 95.5*/100 overall performance score from customers and above-average ratings on 12 of 14 numeric indicators included in the recent KLAS Research report "Autonomous Coding 2025: A Promising Start for an Early Market" (August 2025).

This comprehensive KLAS report, which evaluated customer experiences with prevalent autonomous coding vendors through in-depth interviews, resulted in the following overall grades for Fathom across the measured customer experience pillars (limited data):

  • Culture: A+
  • Loyalty: A+
  • Operations: A-
  • Product: A-
  • Relationship: A+
  • Value: A+

In addition, all customers interviewed by KLAS gave Fathom the highest possible rating on the key dimensions of "product works as promoted," "executive involvement," and "likely to recommend" – exceeding market averages for the segment – and 100% of customers affirmed that Fathom "keeps all promises," is part of their long-term plans, would be bought again, and "avoids charging for every little thing" (limited data).

"This KLAS report validates what we're seeing every day with our provider partners: that true autonomous coding at scale is not just possible, but transformative for revenue cycle operations," said Andrew Lockhart, CEO of Fathom. "While the autonomous coding market is still emerging, our customers are already experiencing the operational and financial benefits of enterprise-grade automation that maintains superhuman accuracy across the broadest range of specialties."

The report noted that Fathom's interviewed customers include a mix of large health systems and large outpatient centers, with deployments spanning emergency department, radiology, and primary care settings. Customers expressed strong interest in expanding to additional specialties, demonstrating confidence in the platform's scalability and implementation. One VP interviewed by KLAS for this report stated: "The integrations that we have set up create a truly touchless process, and that is a direct result of how well the system exchanges work with our EHR."

This fresh KLAS report comes at a critical time for healthcare organizations, with the report noting that autonomous coding is "top of mind for revenue cycle departments looking to ease coder staffing constraints and improve operational efficiency." Responding to demand from providers, Fathom is rapidly expanding specialty coverage, including developing autonomous inpatient facility DRG coding in partnership with a consortium of large health systems and academic medical centers.

"Ongoing KLAS research, including our first-ever autonomous coding report, shows that healthcare leaders are turning to coding automation and AI to improve coding efficiency and manage coder shortages," said Don Seamons, Research Director, KLAS Research.

In an earlier Emerging Company Spotlight report focusing on Fathom (September 2024), KLAS had found unanimous validation of Fathom's 90%+ automation rates across medical specialties at same or better accuracy relative to customers' previous coding solutions. This performance metric – representing the percentage of encounters fully and accurately coded by AI without human intervention – demonstrates nearly double the automation capabilities of other technologies in the market.

"Health systems are facing unprecedented workforce challenges, and the ability to automate over 90% of coding volumes with high accuracy fundamentally changes the equation," said Lockhart. "This KLAS validation reinforces our commitment to delivering a platform that relieves burdens for both clinicians and administrative staff at provider organizations seeking to strengthen their revenue cycle operations and compliance."

This latest recognition from KLAS builds on Fathom's recent momentum, including its achievement of HITRUST i1 Certification for data security and privacy, announced in December 2024. The company continues to expand its footprint with leading health systems nationwide, helping them overcome chronic staffing challenges while improving financial performance through higher coding accuracy and consistency.
